One of the strangest things about breeding is expectations. What that foal will look like, act like, develop into, and ultimately, achieve as a horse bred for a purpose. All of it is speculation, primarily to kill time between the first black dot photo at 10-14 days into a pregnancy, and that first ride, a few years from then. What takes place within those few years is crucial to a young horse’s ultimate education but seems to be grossly overestimated. By this, I’m referencing the questions I get all the time.
